Re>Think Local is almost a year old – let’s celebrate!
We’re throwing a party and fundraiser to celebrate our one-year anniversary and all things local on Tuesday evening, November 12th at the Falcon in Marlboro.
Re>Think Local members, sustainably-minded business owners and anyone interested in the emerging Localism movement are invited to gather to enjoy a silent auction of the Hudson Valley’s finest, live music and dancing with local favorite Big Joe Fitz + the Lo-Fi’s, complimentary hors d’oeuvres (with cash bar), and a host of fun surprises throughout the evening.
During our first year, Re>Think Local focused on community building and education through networking events, educational workshops, and conferences. Highlights include the Speaker Series, a forum where local leaders presented information on New York’s new “benefit” corporation law, regional creative placemaking efforts, and social media strategies for values-driven business. Judy Wicks, co-founder of the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies, also shared inspiration. A nuts-and-bolts workshop on becoming a “triple bottom line” business was developed (placing equal emphasis on environmental impact, social responsibility, and financial profits), and conferences were held around two “building blocks” of a sustainable local economy: health and wellness, and the arts.
Re>Think Local’s second year plans include a region-wide study on the economic benefits of buying local, and a grassroots-style campaign to get citizens, business owners, and nonprofit boards to pledge to shift 10% of their purchasing to local.
Come celebrate with us!
